Question: Why did God make man?

**Genesis 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. 4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, 5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. (KJV).

When God created Adam, right away He put the man to work. Man was created to serve God. If your potential mate does not know why he was created, perhaps you should rethink your choice.

Moses provides us an insight in the very first book of the bible, Genesis. We see that God created all of the plants and herbs BEFORE they were made to grow and sprout up from the earth…because there was no man to till the ground. Then God made man to do the work. That was (and is) man’s intended purpose…to work and serve God.

**Genesis 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. (KJV)

And not only was Adam tasked with tending to the garden and taking care of the animals, he was also tasked with naming them all.

If you were tasked with naming all of the babies in the world, it would at first seem like a wonderful and fun responsibility. But how fun would it be after you were up to one million? 10 million? Sooner or later, naming every creature on earth had to become a mentally exhausting task. Adam was not only working his body in service to God, but his mind as well.

And speaking of Adam’s body…

God made Adam in His image.

Would you imagine Adam as a portly fellow, with a large distended stomach, flabby pouches of fat in various compartments of his body with weak unused muscles? Not an attractive picture. Certainly not something Eve would’ve been excited about.

Adam was perfectly made. Think about that.

What is the image of the perfect physical man in your mind?

When the majority of women I’ve come across in my travels through 13 countries and at least a dozen states here in the United States, were asked what do they look for in a man, the answer has been most often, “I just want a nice man.”

When pressed, most women cannot express specifically what their perfect man looks like, smells like, talks like, thinks like, etc.

Think about the physical attributes you would want in your perfect man. Does the man or men in your life fit that bill…or come close?

God wanted a man who would use both his mind and body to work for Him. If it was good enough for God, do you think it may perhaps be a good thing for you as well?

The number one characteristic of a Godly man is that he works for God. It matters not the specifics of his actual career, as long as he incorporates working for God in his life. And as you can see from the above historical account, God can ask quite a bit from a guy. Working for God is both physically and mentally demanding.

If your man is working for God, he will need to keep the temple of God (his body) in shape and his mind focused and sharp.

Remember my earlier question, can you imagine God creating man in the image of an overweight, neglectful, lazy being? Probably not.

The work ethic of a man is important. Adam willingly worked for God. He did not complain of the burden of work. Certainly you can imagine Adam might have tired of the stress and strain of having to till the ground, name the animals, birds and whatever crawled along the ground or flew in the air. God just kept bringing them to Adam.

Just imagine someone asking you over and over, “So, what will you call this one? …and this one? …and this one?” Hundreds of millions of varieties of insects alone are enough to drive one out of their mind!

I imagine Adam not only had a wonderful imagination, and a very large vocabulary, but also a ton of patience!

Adam was an obedient servant of God and work was what he was designed to do.

Men who serve themselves and pursue their own selfish desires that bring harm to others and fail to contribute positively to mankind are providing major negative indicators of their character. Women who might otherwise find these men attractive would do well to recognize these men do not serve God. Rather, they serve themselves. I feel sorry for women who end up with these men, who are no good to the women or the children that are born of such couplings. Men, by design, are to serve God and society.

That has not changed in the thousands of years since God created the first man. We are designed to work. We should have a willingness to work for God and the betterment of mankind. It is one of the initial characteristics of a Godly man…a willingness to work…both his mind and body.

If you’re making a list, place at the very top: FIT & SMART. These qualities are a part of the physical character of a Godly man.
